Don’t Drink Water If You Are Pregnant or Plan on Getting Pregnant Until You Read This!
Water, The Basis of Life
Water, water, everywhere,
And all the boards
did shrink;
Water, water, everywhere,
Nor any drop to
drink.
Samuel Taylor
Coleridge
Water is essential to life. Every
living creature depends on it. We pride ourselves with having the cleanest water
we can. There is something you should know about the water you drink. It may
not be as clean or as healthy to you or your baby as you might think.
Water, Where Does it Come From?
Water whether it is bottled or from your tap all comes from
various processing plants that run it through a system of filters and separators
to remineralization and then is either bottled or run through the
infrastructure to your house. Sounds pretty straight forward but there is a lot
of debate over the processes that have led many to believe that there are
things in your water that may not be so healthy. I have been doing research for
many years and having worked in the water processing industry, I wanted to
prepare a paper on what I know and have backing documentation for, about water.
Water, The Process of Unhealth
I want to start by telling you all the things that have been
found in water in your tap and bottled.
1.
Fluoride. This one is pretty straight forward. Except
there is a major language problem when “experts” talk about fluoride. There is
calcium fluoride which is found naturally in nature, fluorosilicic acid and sodium
fluoride which are synthesized artificially by industrial reaction [Cited from
National Library of Medicine Article]. Fluorosilicic acid is the industrial byproduct
of the phosphorus fertilizer industry.
a.
While calcium fluoride is what everyone talks
about when they say fluoride. It is highly non-absorbent to biological life. It
is in fair concentrations in the ocean and does not affect marine life.
b.
Sodium Fluoride and Fluorosilicic acid are soluble
and are also what is known as a calcium chelator. Chelation is a medical process
that doctors would use to remove heavy metals mostly lead, from your body. Basically,
they introduce a substance to your body that is ionic and it binds to the lead
and makes it possible for your liver to send it out of your body. These compounds
in water are chelators that prefer calcium and is why they say it binds to your
teeth. It displaces calcium and binds as a chain to your teeth to be an
anti-cavity protection. Problem is that it is not selective. There are many sources
of calcium in your body like bones. So, if you take a calcium vitamin tablet or
drink milk then have a glass of water then it will end up binding with that and
making your body unable to use the mineral. This phenomenon is really the
reason why I titled this paper for women and pregnancy. There are also other concerns of this type of
fluoride that affects an estimate 47 million people as of 2021 and 65 million
in China, btw. It is known as fluorosis caused to over exposure to fluoride. It
is earmarked by yellowing of the teeth or yellow and brown spots on the teeth.
Some say this is the only effect but doing a general web search shows it can
lead to scoliosis to heart failure as described in [Cited from National Library of Medicine Article], for a young girl who ate a whole tube of concentrated
dental gel. Remember that calcium fluoride is natural in nature but that same article
states that water with concentrations of ~1 ppm caused horses, frogs,
chinchillas, alligators to die prematurely that consumed treated water
continuously for extended periods of time. I also do recommend that you do not
use fluoride tooth paste for yourself or your child. Simply instill the 2-3
times a day brushing with non-fluoridated tooth paste. In all its forms fluoride
affects health in a bad way. Please take the time to fully read the article from
the National Library of Medicine.
2.
Chlorine or chloramine. Chlorine is added to
water to kill biologicals in the water like bacteria. It is a compound that also
has a language issue like fluoride because there are different types of “chlorine”. The type they use for disinfecting water is
made from a process of chloride and ammonia. Skin conditions have been reported
from exposure to these types of chemicals as well as asthma. Also, when you
wash leafy greens in water with chlorine in it the plant will absorb the
chlorine through its leaves.
3.
Microplastics. Microplastics are a major concern
worldwide because it doesn’t really degrade. All plastics are a polymer of
petroleum in one form or another. It is something that can be detected greatly
in the oceans of the world and is causing problems with all life.
4.
Pharmaceuticals. All the medications people take
find their way into the water table in one form or another. It is not something
that is tested for at water processing plants. How do they get in the water?
They get there from improper disposal, runoff from pharmaceutical companies and
urine. When people take medications, the body absorbs what it thinks it needs
and the rest usually gets flushed out through the kidneys.
5.
Mercury, Cadmium, Lead, Arsenic is some of the heavy
metals found in drinking water. Mostly a product of runoff from industrial and
agricultural processes they end up in the water table.
6.
Pesticides. This is a major problem in the
oceans of the world and a major problem in the waters in the US. The problems
get higher due to the number of ways that humans come in contact with these
chemicals. In food, atmosphere, and water. It is simply not good enough to wash
your vegetables in water. Your water has a high possibility of having pesticides
in it already.
7.
Flocculants and coagulants. Something that most
people don’t even have an idea of. Coagulants are chemicals that are added to your
water to thicken up organic materials in water production and wastewater. They
then use flocculants to it to make the organic material to make it either float
or sink in a tank so the matter can be skimmed off and removed. This still leads
to some of the chemicals used to do this in the water. It is a major contributor
to aluminum in drinking water.
Water, So I Will Just Drink Bottled Water
While bottled water sounds like it is a logical choice. There is no real truth in advertising. Many natural stream products have been exposed as just bottling tap water. Even it truly comes from the sources they claim they may or may not add Fluoride or Chloride to it. There is a good chance of pesticides in it and mercury has been measured in nearly all major waterways on earth. Your best option that we all should have had the information about since the beginning is to use your tap water. Not the way it is but filtered.
There are a number of Reverse Osmosis systems that you can
get for your countertop that will remove all of the contaminants listed above.
They cost a little bit more, but they are the best option for drinking, cleaning
and cooking water in the kitchen. I recommend a whole house filtration system
if it is possible. The other system is the best choice for renters because it
is portable, or homes where a whole house system is not possible.
